Visit of the Prime Minister of Bhutan to New Delhi

  • His Excellency Lyonchen Jigmi Y. Thinley, the Prime Minister of Bhutan, will pay a working visit to New Delhi from June 30 to July 3, 2009. He would be the first Head of Government to visit India during the second term of our Prime Minister.
  • India and Bhutan share a special relationship characterized by close consultations, mutual trust and understanding. It is nurtured by regular high-level exchange of views. Prime Minister Thinleys visit would be in keeping with this tradition. He had paid a State Visit to India in July 2008 as the first democratically elected Prime Minister after Bhutans historic transition to a Democratic Constitutional Monarchy. He, thereafter, visited India in November 2008 to participate in the 2nd BIMSTEC Summit in New Delhi.
  • During the visit, Prime Minister Thinley will call on the President and meet with the Prime Minister, Chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance, Finance Minister, External Affairs Minister and Leader of the Opposition.
