Second tranche for second batch of High Impact Community Development Projects in Bhutan

    Ambassador of India to Bhutan and H. E. Lyonpo Lekey Dorji, Minister of Finance, Royal Government of Bhutan reviewed the implementation of High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP) under India-Bhutan development cooperation programme. Ambassador highlighted the conceptualization of HICDPs to support the life, livelihoods, social welfare, and connectivity for the people of Bhutan. Lyonpo Lekey Dorji expressed his gratitude to the government and people of India for the steadfast support and noted that these projects are bringing a transformative improvement for communities across Bhutan while further strengthening the enduring bonds of friendship and cooperation between the peoples of India and Bhutan.

2.  During the meeting, Ambassador of India handed over a cheque of INR/BTN 2,378 million (237.83 crores) to the Finance Minister of Bhutan. Out of India’s commitment of of INR/BTN 10 billion (1,000 crores) for HICDP projects in Bhutan in the 13th Plan period (2024-29), an amount of INR/BTN 7.35 billion (735 crores) has already been released by India around the end of first two years of the Plan.

3.  HICDP are local community-level projects in sectors such as drinking water supply, irrigation channels, farm roads, agricultural land development, chain link fencing, agricultural marketing, basic health units, semi-urban and rural infrastructure. The direct benefit to communities across Bhutan through HICDP has received wide appreciation from authorities, community leaders and people in various parts of Bhutan. Out of 571 agreed HICDP projects in this plan period, 141 HICDPs have been completed over the last two years and remaining 430 projects are under implementation.
