Buddha Purnima Observed at the Embassy of India

Embassy of India, Thimphu observed Buddha Purnima, Day of Sakyamuni Buddha’s Birth, Enlightenment and Mahaparinirvana, at Mani Chukhor Chorten, located inside the Embassy premises, on May 1. Mani Chukhor Chorten was consecrated by His Holiness the Je Khenpo, Trulku Jigme Choeda, on June 26, 1996, in the presence of then His Royal Highness Crown Prince JigmeKhesar Namgyel Wangchuck.

The Prayer Ceremony at the Embassy was conducted by Most Ven. Lam Ugyen Dorji, Lam Neten of Tashichhodzong, Central Monastic Body of Bhutan with the participation of the Ambassador of India, Thimphu Dzongda Dasho Minjur Dorji, Thimphu Thrompon Dasho Ugyen Dorji and Deputy Zimpon  Dasho Kunzang Dorji, International Organization Representatives, Embassy Officials, Members of the Indian and Bhutanese Community.

Buddha Purnima reminds of the enormous heritage of Sakyamuni Buddha, connecting India and Bhutan, as well as the significance and contemporary relevance of his teachings for the world. This heritage is also reflected in the presence of Royal Bhutan Monastery at Bodh Gaya and Royal Bhutan Temple at Rajgir, which also hosted special prayers today to mark Buddha Purnima.
