Release of India’s support to Royal Government of Bhutan under 13th Five Year Plan

Today, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India handed over cheques amounting to INR/Nu. 1.31 billion (131 crores) to Finance Secretary, Royal Government of Bhutan (RGoB) in fulfillment of GoI’s commitment to RGoB for the 13th Five Year Plan period for the following projects:

(i) INR/Nu. 750 million (75 crores) for the project “Chain Link Fencing”: This project safeguards crops from wildlife through chain link fencing covering approximately 1000 km across all 20 Dzongkhags. Chain link support is being given to the four key crops: paddy, potato, maize, and vegetables. India has released INR/Nu. 1.07 billion (107 crores) to RGoB out of the total project cost of INR/Nu. 1.5 billion (150 crores).

(ii) INR/Nu. 276.23 million (27.623 crores) for the project “Replacement/Reconstruction of Existing Major Bridges of highways” covering design and construction of 11 bridges as well as procurement of bridge parts. The new bridges will have enhanced load-carrying capacity and wider carriageways, thus facilitating a smooth and reliable road network across Bhutan. India has released INR/Nu. 462.6 million (46.26 crores) to RGoB out of the total project cost of INR/Nu. 1.08 billion (108 crores).

(iii) INR/Nu. 37.65 million (3.75 crores) for the project “Infrastructure Development for Dratshang” to strengthen infrastructure facilities for the Zhung Dratshang (Central Monastic Body); provide conducive living, learning, and spiritual environments to the monks; ensure preservation and continuity of the cultural and spiritual practices; improve sanitation, safety, and well-being of monks and nuns; through 129 activities across all Dzongkhags. India has released INR/Nu. 40.8 million (4.08 crores) to RGoB out of the total project cost of INR/Nu. 836 million (83.6 crores).

(iv) INR/Nu. 250 million (25 crores) as the eighth tranche of Programme Grant, as direct budgetary support to RGoB. So far, GoI has released INR/Nu. 1.5 billion (150 crores) to RGoB out of INR/Nu. 5 billion (500 crores) of Programme Grant.
