Press Release: Celebration of Ayurveda Day on 13 November 2020

Since 2016, the Government of India celebrates ‘Ayurveda Day’ on the day of Dhanwantri Jayanti which falls two days before Diwali i.e. on 13th November 2020 this year. The objective of observing #AyurvedaDay is to focus on the strengths of Ayurveda and its unique treatment principles, to tap into the potential of Ayurveda to contribute towards National Health Policy and National Health programmes as well as to promote Ayurvedic principles of healing in society. Thus, Ayurveda Day is more an occasion of re-dedication to the profession and to society, than one of festivities or celebrations. In the run-up to Ayurveda Day, a number of video messages from Bhutanese students of Ayurveda sharing their outlook on this ancient system have been posted by the Embassy on its social media handles.

A special Webinar aimed at sharing knowledge about Ayurveda and its utility as a system of traditional medicine is being hosted by the Embassy of India, Thimphu on 'Ayurveda Day', i.e. 13 November 2020. The Webinar will witness participation from Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj as well as Ayurveda experts and practitioners from Bhutan and India. The experts include Dasho Dorjee Tshering, former Director General, Department of Traditional Medicines of Bhutan, Prof. Pawankumar Godatwar, Dean(Research), National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur and Ms. Yeshey Lhaden, wellness expert and Ayurveda practitioner. The special Webinar will be live streamed on Facebook LIVE of the Embassy’s Facebook Page (@IndiainBhutan).

Ayurveda, the original health care tradition of humanity, is not just a medical system, but a manifestation of our symbiotic relationship with nature. It is a well-documented system of health care, wherein prevention of disease and promotion of health are both given due consideration.
