The 72nd Independence Day of India was observed with a ceremonial function in the morning of 15th August, 2018 at the Embassy Residence, Thimphu. The National Flag was unfurled by Ambassador Jaideep Sarkar, followed by singing of the National Anthem by attendees. The Ambassador read out the President’s Address to the Nation and inspected a Guard of Honour.
Dasho Ugyen K. Namgyel, Gyalpoi Zimpon to HM the King, presented a scarf to the Ambassador on behalf of the Royal Government of Bhutan (RGoB). Zimpon along with the Cabinet Secretary, Foreign Secretary and the Chief of Protocol represented RGoB in the ceremony.
The flag hoisting ceremony was attended by the officers and other ranks of the Indian Military Training Team, DANTAK, Indians on deputation with the Royal Bhutanese Government, Representatives from Public Sector Units and other members of the local Indian community. Over 800 members of the Indian community were present at the ceremony.
To mark the occasion, the Embassy is organizing a cultural event at India House Auditorium in the evening of 15th August, 2018 from 1800-1900 hrs by a musical/ dance troupe from Gujarat.
